On October 28, we opened our doors and welcomed the public to see what’s inside the new Slocum Center. Hundreds of visitors attended the open house and enjoyed specially designed bone cookies, trick or treat stations, costumed characters, and guided tours that showcased our sustainably built facility. For many, the event was an opportunity not only to explore the building, but also a way to celebrate Halloween early.
In addition to the open house, people joined us for the Monster Dash. Decked out in their finest Halloween costumes, more than 300 runners (humans and dogs) started at the Slocum Center and took to the trails in Alton Baker Park. Participants had the option to race in the timed 5K “Worlds Fastest Trick or Treater,” the 5K family fun run/walk, or the 5K-9 Doggie Dash. Funds from the Monster Dash benefited The Slocum Foundation and Team Ortho, nonprofit organizations focused on spine, bone, and joint research.
