Three physicians at the Slocum Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine join a select group of US physicians who hold a Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. This is the first year that the certification was awarded.

Slocum physicians Matthew Shapiro, Brick Lantz and Rudolf Hoellrich recently received Orthopaedic Subspecialty Certificates from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Physicians must pass a 200-question exam and fulfill specific requirements including evidence of at least 125 sports medicine operative and non-operative procedures during a consecutive 12-month period. Only 587 physicians have achieved this distinction nationally.

The Slocum Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine includes some of Oregon's best-known orthopedic physicians and surgeons, and a team of more than 100 specialized medical staff members. Located at 55 Coburg Road in Eugene, the Slocum Center offers patients a comprehensive array of specialized musculoskeletal health services in a single location and offers rapid access for recent injuries.
