Plantar Wart

Treating Plantar Warts: Options and Recommendations

Plantar warts are a common skin condition caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) infecting the skin on the soles of the feet. These warts appear as small, rough, and grainy growths that can be painful when walking or standing. They often have a black dot in the center, known as a wart seed, which is a blood vessel supplying the wart. Plantar warts are commonly found on weight-bearing areas of the foot, such as the heel or ball of the foot, and can occur individually or in clusters.

These warts are easily transmitted through direct contact with infected surfaces, such as public showers or swimming pools. Individuals with weakened immune systems or those who frequently walk barefoot are more susceptible to developing plantar warts. While they are usually harmless, plantar warts can cause discomfort and embarrassment.

Treatment options for plantar warts include over-the-counter medications, cryotherapy (freezing), laser therapy, or surgical removal. It is recommended to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.
