Shoulder Replacement Surgery

Dedicated to helping patients get relief from chronic shoulder pain, Slocum Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine proudly offers shoulder replacement surgery for individuals who meet specific criteria.

Through years of wear and tear on the joint structures, or in the event of a severe injury, your shoulder can develop enough damage that you experience:

  • An inability to lift your arm above your head
  • Pain that makes it difficult or impossible to carry weight with the affected arm
  • Pain that makes it difficult to get to sleep at night
  • Shoulder instability or clicking sounds when moving your shoulder

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, you may be a good candidate for shoulder replacement surgery. As with hip and knee replacement, shoulder replacement is performed to reduce your joint pain and improve your strength and function.

For a total shoulder replacement, your surgeon will remove the damaged portions of your shoulder joint and replace both the ball and the socket components to create a new joint. A partial shoulder replacement requires only the ball portion to be replaced, but both procedures are designed to help patients get motion back in their arm so they can stay independent and keep doing what they love.

If you're ready to discuss your shoulder problem and treatment options with one of our specialty-trained shoulder replacement surgeons, Dr. David Bear, Dr. Rudolf Hoellrich, or Dr. Jeffrey Tuman, visit us at our Eugene or RiverBend Pavilion locations. You can request an appointment online or call us at (541) 743-4102.
