“From a young age, I have maintained an interest and growing passion for sports, medicine, and the outdoors. I consider myself extremely blessed for having moved to Eugene to indulge these passions with an exciting sports medicine career at Slocum and the opportunity to explore Oregon! My goal is to help my patients understand their injury and get them back to the activities they enjoy.”
In my free time, I enjoy running, participating in triathlons, road/mountain biking, and ultimate Frisbee.

Sports medicine specialist Denise R. Routhier, MD, was recently inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of Albion College, her alma mater, for her outstanding achievements as a college athlete. While pursuing her undergraduate degree at Albion…
I just like how Dr. Routhier connects with the issue, but also on a personal level. She well diagnosed my knee problems. Her dx and advise helped me to fully recover, fast. Back on the trail again.
The procedure was carried out quickly and efficiently. I am pleased with thoughtfulness of staff and doctor.
Dr. Routhier is the BEST....... She gives me guided injections in my hips for my arthritis. ( chronic pain ) She is very gentle. She is the most patience Dr. I have ever been to, and I've been to a LOT........ She will answer any question you have and as many as you have, even if its not about what she does, and you don't feel rushed. . With most doctors I feel rushed...... Dr. Routhier is very friendly and professional...... If you are looking for a GREAT Dr. or want to change your Dr . Well its time to go to her....... She does a great job.....
As an employee also, I was extremely impressed with Dr. Routhier she is very down to earth, straight forward. I have had follow up's appointments with her and feel she is very knowledgeable and honest about her approach of care.
I am so grateful to the people at Slocum Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine for getting my life back. Just 61 days following my hip replacement surgery, I struck a perfect 5 iron to record my first hole in one in 46 years of golf. When I first arrived at Slocum, it was very hard for this sub 3 marathoner to accept how difficult walking had become, especially when I had run 2:57 just two years earlier at age 56. But Dr. Denise Routhier and Dr. Brian Jewett helped me understand what was happening to my hip joint and the options for me so I could confidently choose the best approach for me. I was the second recipient of a new hip at the Slocum facilities and had no hesitation of having my procedure done there. It is a world class facility with top notch professionals. The people made all of the difference in every phase of the process. Every individual, from the initial evaluation and treatment, specialist referral, counseling and orientation session, scheduling, surgery, post op /recovery care at Slocum, home visits, and pre/post op physical therapy. Their professionalism and responsiveness to all of my needs made all the difference. Most importantly, they instilled the confidence needed to set me on a path to create my own active future. I would not have made that hole-in-one had it not been for the entire Slocum team, especially Dr. Routhier, Dr. Jewett, my PT, Julie Embree and most importantly, my wife Donna, who was there every step of the way for me. And a very special thanks to Michelle Mitchell, RN/MSN for coordinating all of the phases of my care.
