Hip

Patient-Centered hip Care Begins Here

Your hips are a fundamental component of your daily life. Whether you’re sitting, standing, walking, or bending, the hip joint allows for a great deal of motion in a variety of directions. Connecting the thigh bone to the trunk, the hip is a ball-and-socket joint that is susceptible to dozens of different hip conditions and diseases, including arthritis, fractures, and bursitis.

Since hip injuries and conditions can impact persons of varying ages and activity levels, orthopedic surgeons and doctors who specialize in treating hip injuries and conditions can also specialize in joint replacement surgery or sports medicine care. Our hip specialists have extensive training and experience in performing highly specialized hip treatments, from conservative treatment to advanced procedures for those who need a hip replacement or a minimally invasive hip surgery, like hip arthroscopy.

Slocum’s Hip Care

Mako® Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology for Joint Replacement

Slocum Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine surgeons are now offering Mako® Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield.

Robotic-assisted surgery is yet one more way orthopedic specialists can better help patients make dramatic improvements in their daily life. Mako robotic-assisted surgery offers patients an exact, personalized surgical plan and allows for advanced precision in placing joint replacement implants during surgery.

The Mako system uses a 3D model of the patient’s hip to create a custom surgical plan. Surgeons are in full control of robotic instrumentation and can place the implants in specific and reproducible alignment, potentially minimizing soft-tissue trauma during the operation.
